General Petraeus Suggests Talking to Our Enemies
Do you ever get the sense that when McCain talks about General Petraeus, it sounds an awful lot like a love-struck high-schooler talking about his latest crush?
Well, maybe McCain won't like his (heart) crush Petraeus after hearing that he basically endorsed Obama's call for America to talk to its enemies:

Foreign Policy Experts Favor Iraq Withdrawal
These are some pretty striking numbers from a recent survey of top conservative and liberal foreign policy experts by the Center for American Progress and Foreign Policy. Not surprisingly, the results are strongly in line with Obama's foreign policy positions and far afield of John McCain/President Bush. But, then, as McCain would likely say, why should we listen to EXPERTS?
– 80 percent say that the U.S. has focused too much on the war in Iraq and not enough on Afghanistan.
– 69 percent recommend that the majority of U.S. forces in Iraq be redeployed in the next 18 months, up one percent from last year.
– Zero percent say Iraq is most likely to become the next al Qaeda stronghold; 51 percent say Pakistan will be.
– 81 percent say U.S. policy towards Iran has negatively impacted national security.

CNN on Obama's Military Fundraising Advantage
AS I noted a few days ago, Obama has receives six times as much in donations from active-duty military personnel stationed overseas than John McCain. Here is CNN on the phenomenon. Truly remarkable.

Troops Donate 6:1 for Obama
This is truly a remarkable number. Of the active-duty military personnel deployed overseas that have given money to a presidential candidate, they have given over six times more to Obama than McCain.
According to an analysis of campaign contributions by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has Republican John McCain, and the fiercely anti-war Ron Paul, though he suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination months ago, has received more than four times McCain's haul.
Despite McCain's status as a decorated veteran and a historically Republican bent among the military, members of the armed services overall -- whether stationed overseas or at home -- are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008, by a $55,000 margin. Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama.

Quote of the Day: Obama on Iraq
I haven't been able to watch the big Obama foreign policy speech yet but here is a quote from his prepared remarks that I think is spot-on:
Our men and women in uniform have accomplished every mission we have given them. What’s missing in our debate about Iraq – what has been missing since before the war began – is a discussion of the strategic consequences of Iraq and its dominance of our foreign policy. This war distracts us from every threat that we face and so many opportunities we could seize. This war diminishes our security, our standing in the world, our military, our economy, and the resources that we need to confront the challenges of the 21st century. By any measure, our single-minded and open-ended focus on Iraq is not a sound strategy for keeping America safe.
...
By any measure, our single-minded and open-ended focus on Iraq is not a sound strategy for keeping America safe. In fact — as should have been apparent to President Bush and Sen. McCain — the central front in the war on terror is not Iraq, and it never was.
