Republican Rep. Larry Pressler Endorses Obama

The flood of Obamacons continues:

Former Sen. Larry Pressler (R-S.D.), who was the first Vietnam veteran to serve in the United States Senate, is the latest Republican to back Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, Politico learned Sunday.

Pressler, who said that in addition to casting an absentee ballot for Obama he'd donated $500 to the Illinois senator's campaign, cited the Democrat's response to the financial crisis as the primary reason for his decision.

Steve Benen notes something very important about the endorsement:
Pressler's explanation for why he dumped McCain for Obama is the part that stood out for me. For weeks, the pundits have noted that the financial crisis has seriously undermined the McCain campaign. That's true, but it overlooks why -- McCain has handled the crisis really badly. It's not enough to simply note that a focus on the economy is necessarily good news for Obama; McCain had a chance to deal with this crisis effectively and he blew it.

Lots of New Polling News

Here are some great state-by-state polling numbers:

* Rasmussen shows Obama leading McCain in Michigan by eight, 47% to 39%.

* Public Policy Polling (D) shows Obama leading McCain in Colorado by four, 47% to 43%.

* I never would have imagined South Dakota being in any way competitive, but Rasmussen shows McCain’s lead in South Dakota down to just four points, 47% to 43%.

* Rasmussen shows Obama leading McCain in Iowa by 10, 48% to 38%.

* Rasmussen shows Obama leading McCain in Minnesota by 10, 52% to 34%.

* Quinnipiac shows Obama leading John McCain nationally by nine, 50% to 41%.

Approach Toward Clinton After June 3rd

South Park served up a a poignant episode a while ago, which addressed how the boys finally decide to deal with Cartman, another well-known distasteful sociopath. I recommend we use the same approach for the Clintons after June 3rd if they really want to continue their fight to the Convention:
