Fight Michele Bachmann, Donate to Tinklenberg
First-term Minnesota Republican Representative Michele Bachmann has been in hot water lately for explicitly calling for a McCarthy-esque inquisition into which members of Congress are "pro-America" or "anti-America".
Since she made her indefensible comments over the weekend, the Democrat challenging her for her House seat, El Tinklenberg, has experienced a flood of donations -- garnering nearly $1 million in four days. I dug into my wallet and added $100 to the mix yesterday. I suggest you do the same.
Here's an ad that El Tinklenberg's new flood of cash is helping pay for:

Donate and Get Limited Edition Poster
Wednesday is April 30 and that is the end of the monthly reporting period for campaign contributions. You can also use the opportunity to get a cool poster. Think this won't be a collectors item in a few years?

Get Yourself Some Obama Gear
I thought I'd write a post with some tips for getting Obama campaign materials. I remember from my ordering process from back in December, some of the items up for sale on the official Obama Campaign Store may be backordered due to significant demand.
Here are a couple of other places you can try.
For one, there are a lot of independent people that have created Obama '08 designs on a site called CafePress.com. Click here to see search results for any items tagged with "Barack Obama". Although you'll be putting money into an individual's pocket, it's still better than going without.
Here are some examples:
Also, check out Obamacycle.com, which is a site dedicated to connecting people with Obama campaign materials with those who need them.
Finally, here are a couple other random sites that offer Obama gear:
- Deadheads For Obama (or go to ebay and search 'Deadheads For Obama')
- Bush's Last Day

Dinner With Barack
The Obama campaign is having another Dinner with Barack (I think this is the third one). Donate any amount to the campaign before midnight on March 31st and you could be chosen.

Obama Website Helps You Write Op-Eds
Here is a handy tool that I just discovered. If you are interested in writing a letter to the editor to your local newspapers about the campaign, you can go to the Obama website at http://my.barackobama.com/page/speakout/dailies - there is a tool there that allows you to find your local papers, compose your letter and automatically send your letter to each of the papers you select.

1 Million Donors to Obama in MARCH
Just a month ago, the Obama campaign was seeking to reach the million-donor-mark. It did so handily.
Now, nearing the end of March, the Obama campaign has achieved 1 million donors in March alone for a grand total of nearly 2 million!
This really is remarkable! 2 million is nearly 0.01% of the entire US population!

Photos from Obama Students in Texas
I just got access to a set of pictures from one of the students I sponsored to go down and campaign for Obama in Texas: Wendi from California. I am so jealous -- I wish I could have been there.
Check them out:

One Million Donors for Obama
Barack Obama has crossed an historic threshold. As of today, he has collected donations from over one million people! This has never been done in the history of politics and is just one more example of how he is going to bust apart the political calculus of the last era.

Sponsoring Obama Volunteers to Texas
I am in a really great mood today due, in large part, to sponsoring three eager students from across the U.S. -- either by way of helping them get a plane ticket or helping with accommodations -- to fly down to Texas to volunteer for the Obama campaign. Please check back here often as they will be sending me news, photos and anecdotes from the campaign trail that I will be posting here.
Here are the intrepid folks I'll be following over the next week:
- Aaron - Coming from Cornelia, Georgia with what sounds like a large group of friends, he'll be campaigning in Houston and the surrounding area.
- Wendi - Flying in from San Jose, California with, like Aaron, a significant network of students to campaign in Houston.
- Kingsley - Update: With a few other people in tow, including one Sheila that I've spoken with and who helped arrange everything, Kingsley hails from New York City and will be heading down to the Brownsville area.

Obama to Raise $50-60 Million This Month
According to today's news reports, Obama is on pace to raise $50-60 million this month and will likely soon cross the threshold of having one million people donate to the campaign!
I donated another $300 yesterday. Won't you join me?

Two Peninsulas - A Song for Hillary's FL/MI Power Grab
Go over to the Huffington Post to listen to a new punk rock song dedicated to speaking out against Hillary's power grab for the Michigan and Florida delegates. Here's my favorite line:
Cause we've grown, old and tired
Of willful disregard for the rules
So it's high time I object
To ambition left unchecked
You've got so much more than my respect to lose.
The post also links to the petition urging Hillary to abandon her push to have the Michigan and Florida delegates seated in the upcoming Democratic National Convention. If you haven't already signed, please do so today!
See below for a list of some of the people that have signed:

Superdelegates -- How YOU Can Help!
I just received an email from the Obama campaign with instructions on how we can help to win the hearts and minds of the superdelegates! Here's how the email put it:
Our work so far has taught us one important lesson: that your personal story about why you support Barack Obama is often the most powerful persuasion tool for someone who's undecided. That's true whether that undecided voter is your neighbor or a superdelegate.
The story of where you're from, what brought you into the political process, the issues that matter to you, and why you became part of this movement has the potential to inspire someone who could cast a deciding vote in this contest.
Our staff will compile stories from supporters like you and make them a key part of the conversation with superdelegates as Barack asks for their support.
They are asking for you to submit your story via their form, which they will compile and relay to the superdelegates. Here is the story I just submitted:
To whom it may concern,
In my short 31 years of life, I have never been much involved in the political process and have never been particularly enthused about any presidential campaign.
This year is different. Profoundly so.
Over the past eight years, we have suffered through an otherwise unthinkably horrific debacle brought upon our country by an arrogant man who currently holds the office of President of the United States.
This election brings with it the hope of not only a new President, but a new hope for our country -- a new way in which we can look upon ourselves as a nation.
The current democratic nomination process carries with it the chance to ruin all of that. If, by some stretch of the imagination, the candidate without a majority of the popular vote or a majority of the elected pledged delegates somehow steals the nomination by arm-twisting enough superdelegates to vote for him or her -- I will no longer consider the Democratic Party worthy of my vote.
I am a moderate, right of center, sometimes libertarian, sometimes independent who is now so disillusioned with anyone claiming to be a "conservative" that I will be voting with the Democrats this year.
That is, of course, unless the nomination is wrested from the rightful winner via either (a) a vote by the superdelegates or (b) seating the delegates from Michigan and Florida, where fair elections were not held.
I hope the Democrats understand the potential that exists to ruin this election by having the process appear to be unfair. I beg you to consider our pleas.
Respectfully,
[ ]

Obama Raises $5.2 Million Since Last Night
This is just stunning! Yes, we really can! Update: I just gave another $100.
The Clintons gave their own campaign $5 million last month. Since the polls closed on February 5, according to the Obama campaign, donors have contributed$5.2$5.8 million to the Obama campaign. Staggering. The page for donations is here.

Petition to Stop Clinton At 134 Signatures in 24 Hours!
As some of you have seen, I have started up a petition to urge Senator Clinton to stop her push to have the Florida and Michigan delegates seated (which would obviously, given the non-contested results, favor her). Please consider signing the petition and forwarding it to all of your family and friends!
Here are some of the comments to the petition thus far from people who have signed:
Moana - Hillary said, after the Iowa caucuses, that "Florida and Michigan don't count for anything". Now she is holding rallies in Florida and declaring "victory". You can't change the rules in the middle of the game, and her tactics do nothing but show her true character - she'll do anything to win, even if it means splitting the party in half...
Sara - Senator Clinton, As a young feminist, I am more than thrilled that so early in my voting career, I could help elect the first woman to the Oval Office. However, I would be ashamed to see her get there by dirty, underhanded tactics, which is precisely what you would be proposing if you carry this plan through. If you do carry out this plan, rest assured it will be at the expense of my vote, and many others'. I look to you for inspiration, Sara...
Lisa - While I am still very angry at the DNC for stripping Florida and Michigan of its delegates, it would be completely unfair to seat the delegates for Clinton at this point. Also, to set the record straight--I don't know about the situation in Michigan, but it was our REPUBLICAN legislature here is Florida that forced through the early primary date. Shame on the DNC for allowign this to happen, and SHAME ON YOU FELLOW DEMOCRATS who say that we in Florida and Michigan 'deserve' this!! Aren't we all supposed to be on one team?? Hillary Clinton and fellow democrats should have stood up for their Michigan and Florida constituents months ago. Too late now.
